Join the CLINSH Focus Group of ports and authorities

The CLINSH project will propose policies for the greening of inland waterways transport based on the monitoring of ships emissions, scenario building and socio-economic analysis.

There is special emphasis on alignment of policies by ports and authorities around two initial topics in particular:

* Deployment of onshore power supply

* Vessel scoring methodology for policy incentives

A focus group has been formed consisting of port and local authorities to exchange knowledge, test and get feedback on best practices with deployment of onshore power (OPS) and to coordinate local incentives to promote OPS. The focus group may also initiate new deployment projects under EU programmes.

The port and local authorities focus group will also promote alignment and harmonization of local incentives for low-emission ships based on a common vessel scoring methodology developed within CLINSH.

Several ports and local and regional authorities are partners in the CLINSH project. They invite you to join this focus group. Up to three live meetings are foreseen in the period 2018-2020.

Interested? Please contact h.nijhuis@nijmegen.nl

Smart Energy Solutions for Islands in the Channel launch project website

Funded by the INTERREG VA France (Channel) England Programme, the Intelligent Community Energy project (ICE) aims to design, implement and promote innovative smart energy solutions for isolated territories facing issues in terms of efficiency, reliability and sustainability in the Channel area.

Marine South East is a partner in the project which will run until 2020.

The project is aiming to design and produce an innovative low-carbon energy system (smart grid), able to significantly reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission of island communities concerned (50% to 100% compared to a fuel-based system) and secure energy access security.

It will cover the entire energy cycle from production to consumption, exploit local renewable energy sources and integrate new and existing technologies currently at different levels of readiness, in order to deliver a comprehensive innovative solution.

The ICE project tackles the key challenge faced by the Channel area in reducing the energy vulnerability of the region. Isolated territories such as islands and peripheral communities of the Channel area are either located at the end of energy distribution networks or depend mainly on fossil fuel generation which can be expensive and vulnerable to supply issues. This implies not only above average carbon emissions, but also higher production and sales costs, energy security issues and lack of resilience as well as higher risk of supply chain disruption.

For more information please visit the new ICE website at https://www.ice-interreg.eu/

The ICE project has received funding from the European Union's INTERREG V A France (Channel) England Research and Innovation Programme.
