Tidal Energy Briefing and supply chain opportunities in the Solent, 3rd July 2018, Seawork, Southampton

SOREC is proud to be partnering with Seawork International 2018 to update the industry on the emerging Tidal Energy Market and to announce an exciting supply opportunity. The event will take place at the Seawork Exhibition and Conference, in the conference centre on 3rd July 2018 from 1600-1730.

The Offshore Renewable Energy catapult (OREC) have recently published their much awaited report on Tidal Stream Energy.

The headlines are that global deployment of sufficient turbines to deliver 100MW each year from 2021/22 would reduce the price of Tidal Stream Energy from £300 per MWh down to £150MWh, with a further reduction to £90MWh when 1GW had been deployed and £80MWh when 2GW have been deployed. A cost which compares very favorably with Hinckley Nuclear Power station which is £92.5 MW, in 2023 costing £16b+.

This represents an exciting opportunity to improve the UK's energy supply and create a new industry in Britain bringing 4000 jobs by 2030, increasing to 14,500 by 2040 generating a national income (GVA) of £1,400m at that time.

The report has prompted, the fully consented, Perpetuus Tidal Energy Centre (PTEC) to start their preliminary meetings with potential supply chain companies to review the production, operations and maintenance costs for the project deployment off Ventor, in the Isle of Wight.

The Solent Offshore Renewable Energy Consortium (SOREC) will host the supply chain event as part of the conference programme at Seawork International 2018.

The meeting will start with a brief on the OREC report and the recent encouraging strategic developments in the UK's Tidal Energy sector. It will highlight the opportunities and risks and be followed by the first supply chain meeting for the PTEC partnership.

The presenter will be the Chairman of PTEC, Rob Stevens CB, who also led the government study of the Marine & Maritime aspects of the 'Transforming Solent Report' of 2014. He will be followed by Hans Van Breugel, the CEO of 'Tocardo Tidal Power B.V.' the project's Marine Energy Turbine supplier, who will lead the supply chain meetings.

Expressions of interest in a 'Gain Share' approach to minimize early costs are sought from: Subsea cable suppliers; Subsea export cable contractors; substations suppliers; power quality equipment suppliers; Electrical installation companies; Navigation buoy manufacturers; construction companies for land fall works; contracted seabed foundations work including anchors, moorings; additional survey work; support vessels; berthing opportunities; second tier operational array support companies.
