NEXT GEN Safety & Systems Workshop; 21st October 2025, online
Safety for vessels is no longer just about sea survival and reducing onboard injuries. Navigation was typically carried out with a chart plotter and radar plus a VHF for communications. As individual devices become more complex this inevitably creates more systems with more data to monitor. Less people are required to perform more tasks at sea and with more technology onboard there are new risks to manage.
The new technologies that shape our future will arise through collaborations between scientists, engineers and industry. It is essential to include operators and end-users in the design loop. Energy efficiency and environmental impact are clear drivers for change, but others are emerging including rapid shifts in global politics. The workshop programme starts by looking at the emerging risks at sea, both real and perceived.
WORKSHOP THEME: How Real World Lessons Can Prevent Incidents At Sea
Session 1: Avoiding Single Points of Failure at Sea on Complex Vessels.
Session 2: Viable Technology to Prevent Incidents and Improve Safety at Sea.
Session 3: WBV Strategies are Evolving with the Rising Use of Data and Autonomy.
With practical safety always front and centre, NEXT GEN Safety & Systems highlights effective solutions for workboats, ferries, patrol craft, military vessels, SAR, wind farm support, super yachts and unmanned craft. With focus on sub 24m vessels, topics are also relevant for 25m to 100m and the ports they operate from.
The unique knowledge gained from NEXT GEN workshops helps to shape real world decisions, from modifying in-service powertrains to shaping requirements for next generation vessels. Attendees include commercial, government and military organisations, boat builders, engine manufacturers, technology developers, engineers, naval architects, class societies and legislators.
NEXT GEN Safety & Systems combines international marine energy expertise with dynamic Q&A sessions. End-users and industry come together to identify viable solutions and technology readiness levels. This is a workshop via Teams, not a webinar, so places are limited.
